Navigating PCOS: Holistic Tips for Health and Hormone Balance

In honour of PCOS Awareness Month, I would like to share some simple tips to help balance hormones.

Living with PCOS can be challenging, but with a holistic approach, you can make positive changes to support your health and well-being. As a Holistic Nutritional Therapist, I want to share some valuable tips for those dealing with PCOS:

1. Balanced Meals: Prioritise balanced meals that include plenty of colourful, fibre-rich vegetables, protein (plant or animal), healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. This helps regulate blood sugar and insulin levels.

2. Mindful Eating: Pay attention to hunger cues and practice mindful eating. Slow down and savour your food. Listen to your body's signals of fullness.

3. Manage Stress: Chronic stress can exacerbate PCOS symptoms. Incorporate stress-reducing practices like yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises into your daily routine.

4. Choose Whole Foods: Opt for whole, unprocessed foods whenever possible. These are rich in essential nutrients and support hormone balance.

5. Exercise Regularly: Regular physical activity can help improve insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, and support weight management.

6. Stay Hydrated: Proper hydration is crucial for hormone regulation and overall health. Aim to drink 1.5-2 litres of water throughout the day.

7. Avoid endocrine disruptors which cause hormonal imbalance and can interfere with the development and release of eggs from the ovaries. Some examples of endocrine disruptors are pesticides, heavy metals, triclosan, bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates and many more. These toxic substances can be found in products we use daily such as beauty products, food storage containers, non-stick cookware and perfumes. Remember, PCOS management is unique to each person. These tips are a starting point, but personalised guidance is essential. You are not alone on this journey, and with the right support, you can thrive!
